One year full-time course


QQI Level 5 Certificate in Office Administration 5M1997

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate or equivalent. For mature applicants practical experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications. All applicants whose first language is not English will be required to take an English test before being accepted for the course.

Duration: one year

Work Placement

  • Work placement - Students will spend at least two weeks in Solicitors' firms/Insurance companies or organisations with a Legal Department in order to gain practical first-hand experience.
  • Court Visit – students with spent a week in the Criminal Court to follow legal trials.
  • CV workshop

Course Aims


This course is of value to those who are interested in working as legal administrators or who would like to prepare for a career in the legal profession by progressing to Higher Education. It is a useful pre-university option. The students learn all of the pertinent legal terms desirable to work in a legal office, receive a good grounding in basic law and a feel for the specialism they have chosen.

Future Prospects

There are excellent opportunities for progression with legal studies in third level colleges e.g. Dublin City University: Law and Society DC232, International Relations: DC231, Maynooth University:  BA with Law MH101, UCD:Arts DN520.  Other courses may also be considered in third level colleges that accept the Office Administration QQI 5M1997 award. Students may also progress to QQI Level 6 Advanced Administration with Project Management in Marino College.
