One year full-time course


FETAC Level 5 Award 5M1995

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate standard including Leaving Certificate Applied. All applicants will be interviewed. It is also recommended, but not entirely necessary to have studied art at leaving cert level. Students should demonstrate, at interview, an ability in visual arts via a basic portfolio of work relating to art and design, particularly drawing skills.

Work Placement

Work experience will be organised by students throughout the course year where they will have the opportunity to work in the field of art and design.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to help students to produce a highly creative and informed portfolio of graphic design work. Students will explore the practical and theoretical study of graphic design across a broad range of media, through project based work. The course is aimed at providing a stepping stone for students who wish to progress to third level education in the area of art and design or who wish to directly pursue a career in the area of graphic design.

Future Prospects

Graduates of this course have gone on to study degree courses in Visual Communications, Fine Art and other related courses in institutions such as DIT Mountjoy Square, NCAD and IADT Dun Laoghaire. Graduates are also eligible to join Year 2 of the Graphic Design Higher National Diploma in Colaiste Dhulaigh College of Further Education and progress to a degree qualification validated by the University of Wolverhampton. Entry requirements: Interview and Portfolio of Course Work. This course is also suitable for students who wish to directly pursue a career in the area of graphic design.
