NEBDN Irish Diploma in Dental Nursing. This Course is approved by the Irish Dental Council.

Entry Requirements


Leaving Certificate standard. NB Applicants must note that having Leaving Cert Biology is desirable.
 All eligible applicants will be interviewed. Mature applicants welcome. Students that present for interview must have good spoken and written English or agree to undergo Literacy Assessment.

Work Placement


Students will undertake continuous clinical placement two days per week working in a Dental Practice over the duration of the course. This arrangement ensures that students will acquire the necessary clinical experience in dealing with the demands of the surgery. It is the student's responsibility to secure this work placement.
All students will be Garda vetted and will require Hepatitis B vaccination for work placement. As the vaccination process takes approximately four months, students should bear this in mind when preparing for work placement starting in early October.

Course Aims

This accredited course in Dental nursing is designed to prepare students for a career as a dental nurse and encourage participants to gain a recognised professional qualification. During the course you will be able to experience the role of the Dental Nurse in a variety of dental settings.

There are excellent opportunities for students to follow after qualifying as a dental nurse such as careers as Dental Nurses in General Dental Practices, Community Dental Clinics and Dental Nursing in Dental Hospitals for those who complete the National Diploma.  
It is also a useful bridge to careers in Oral Health Education, Special Needs Dental Nursing and Dental Hygiene.
Successful students are also encouraged to extend their qualifications through participation in a variety of post qualification certificate courses:-
