Aims
The Fashion and Media Make up with Retail Practice offers an internationally recognised professional qualification for students who wish to pursue a career in the Makeup Industry. The course will give candidates an opportunity to become skilled in the specialist area of Makeup artistry within the performing arts, media, fashion and film production industries. This award qualifies graduates to operate their own freelance practice and gain employment within the Theatrical, fashion, film and retail industries.  We also offer in house training and product knowledge to enable students to keep up to date with the trends and ever changing world of the Makeup industry.

Our examinations body, ITEC have a strict attendance requirement which must be met to register for theory and practical exams. It is compulsory that students complete a portfolio of case studies as part of their internal assessment which is verified by ITEC. NB No case studies – no exam.

Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate level or equivalent. All eligible applicants will be interviewed.

Work Placement
Work experience is an essential part of the course whereby students will spend time during the year in a suitable place of employment.

Assessment & Certification
On completion of this two year course students will receive the following:-

  • International Therapy Examination Council (ITEC)
    –Fashion, Theatre and Media Make-up with Special Effects Diploma Level 3
  • Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC)
    - Retail Practice Level 5 Award

Future Prospects
Job opportunities for students who successfully complete this internationally recognised Make up and Retail Practice course are excellent. Career opportunities include working in theatre, film, television, media productions, high fashion, cosmetic companies and salons as cosmetic consultants and makeup artists.

Students who obtain their diploma from Marino College can progress to further studies in Beauty and Complimentary Therapies. Students can also progress to the Athlone IT Bachelor of Arts in Spa Management, where students may be able to avail of subject exemptions.
