Art and Design Portfolio Preparation


Duration: One year full-time course - FETAC Level 5 Award AGDXX

Aims
The aim of this course is to help students to produce a highly creative and informed portfolio of graphic design work. Students will explore the practical and theoretical study of graphic design across a broad range of media, through project based work.

The course is aimed at providing a stepping stone for students who wish to progress to third level education in the area of art and design or who whish to directly pursue a career in the area of graphic design and fine art.

Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate standard including Leaving Certificate Applied. All applicants will be interviewed.

Drawing Painting
Graphic Design Combined Materials
Design Digital Photography
Appreciation of Art Desktop Publishing
Work Experience Communications

Work Placement
Work experience will be organised throughout the course year where students will have the opportunity to work in the field of art and design.

Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC).

Future Prospects
Graduates of this course have gone on to study degree courses in Visual Communications and other related courses in colleges such as DIT Mountjoy Square, NCAD and IADT Dun Laoghaire. Graduates are also eligible to join Year 2 of the Graphic Design Diploma in Colaiste Dhulaigh College of Further Education and progress to a degree qualification validated by the University of Wolverhampton. Entry requirements: Interview and Portfolio of Course Work.

This course is also suitable for students who wish to directly pursue a career in the area of graphic design.
