CHILDCARE & EDUCATION (Course no. 137)
Duration: Two year full-time course - FETAC Level 5 Award DCHSC
Diploma for Teaching Assistants (CACHE)

Aims
This two-year course is designed to prepare students to work competently, safely and effectively with young children. It is ideal both for school-leavers and mature people seeking a formal qualification. Having successfully completed year one, students progress to the Diploma in Pre-School Practice certified by CACHE.

Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate standard including Leaving Certificate Applied. All applicants will be interviewed.

Course Content Includes

Child Development Early Childhood Education
Working in Childcare Arts and Crafts
Social Studies Communications
Work Placement Caring for Children
Safety and Health Occupational First Aid

Work Placement
Practical training is provided which is closely integrated with all aspects of the course.

Assessment & Certification
Further Education and Training Council (FETAC).
First Aid Occupational Certificate.

Future Prospects
The majority of students who successfully complete this course progress to the Diploma in Pre-School Practice. Where students wish to progress to employment, there are opportunities that include working in Pre-School Centres, Day Nurseries, Crèches, Child Care Residential Centres, Hospitals and as Nannies. There are links with related courses in Institutes of Technology in Ireland & the Degree course in Early Childhood Studies U.C.C.

YEAR TWO (course no.137)

Marino College is one of a small number of colleges approved to provide this Diploma in Ireland. It is certified by CACHE Council for Awards in Childcare and Education) which is the leading provider of nationally recognised awards in early years care and education in the UK.

Entrance Requirements
Successful completion of FETAC Level 5 Child Care, or equivalent qualification.

Work Placement
Students' work experience takes place in primary and secondary school two days each week.

Assessment & Certification
Diploma for Teaching Assistants beside CACHE Diploma (CTA3-L3)
FETAC Level 5 Modular Certification
Certificate in First Aid

Future Prospects
Employment in Pre-School Centres, in Primary & Secondary schools as Special Needs Assistants, Day Nurseries, Creches, Child Care Residential Centres, Hospitals and as Nannies.


With this Diploma students will be qualified to work as teaching assistants in the UK, Canada and Australia.
There are links with related courses in Institutes of Technology in Ireland and with certain university degree courses.
