INTRODUCTION TO NURSING STUDIES (Course no. 138)
Duration: One year full-time course - FETAC Level 5 Nursing Studies Award DCHSN

Aims
This is a preparatory course for students who intend to go on to further training for the four year degree in Nurse Training both in Ireland and England. The course introduces students to subjects/topics commonly studied for the nursing profession

Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate standard including Leaving Certificate Appliedand interview.

Course Content Includes

Anatomy & Physiology Introduction to Nursing
Human Growth and Development Occupational First Aid
Communications Health & Safety at Work
Word Processing Level 6 Work Experience (1 day per week)

Assessment & Certification
FETAC Level 5 Certification
Certificate in Lifting and Handling
First Aid Certificate

Future Prospects
Currently there are approximately 72 places offered to students who successfully meet the FETAC criteria for nurse training in Ireland. This criteria applies to all colleges who run the FETAC Level 5 Introduction to Nursing Studies Course. To maximise career opportunities for our students, Marino College has developed strong relationships and links with the following UK Universities.

- Glamorgan University, Wales.
Throughout the years we have seen many students successfully undertake their Nurse Training in the UK. Many are now practicing in Ireland.


Employment
Many Students progress to full nursing qualifications, whilst other find employment in the broader health care setting. Students who achieve the award can work as health care assistants in hospitals and other institutions.
