MEDICAL SECRETARIAL & ADMINISTRATION STUDIES (Course no. 136)
Duration: One year full-time course - FETAC Level 5 Award BBSXX

Aims
This course prepares students for a career in an administrative capacity in the health service working in areas with a wide variety of duties and responsibilities such as the smooth running of the hospital clinic; reception duties, appointments, maintaining files, recording information on database; and word processing. Developing communication skills and preparing students to deal with the needs of clients/patients are important elements of the course.

Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate standard including Leaving Certificate Applied. All applicants will be interviewed.

Occupational First Aid Text Production
Anatomy & Physiology Database Methods
Communications Information Administration
Reception Skills Work Experience

Work Placement
Work experience is organised to ensure that students gain the practical knowledge and experience required for a career in the Health Service.

Assessment & Certification
Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC). Occupational First Aid Certificate as recognised by the Health and Safety Authority Ireland.

Future Prospects
There are excellent employment opportunities both in the private and public areas of the health services sector. Graduates secure jobs in the Health Board and Community Care areas.
